To celebrate the 10th Edition of the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games, Horizons Regional Council is offering free bus services on Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Getting to and from the Games has never been easier, with Horizons’ public transport arm Connect – Horizons Regional Transport providing its Palmerston North, Ashhurst, and Feilding services free of charge throughout the weekend.
Horizons Chair Rachel Keedwell says the council is proud to support the event by making public transport more accessible for everyone.
“We want to encourage more people to experience how convenient and easy it is to use buses in and around the city. Taking public transport saves you the hassle of parking on what will be a busy weekend in the city,” says Rachel.
“With all the services travelling to the Main Street Bus Hub – just a gumboot’s throw away from Te Marae o Hine The Square – catching the bus is the most convenient way to get to and from New Zealand Rural Games.
“Palmerston North residents can take advantage of buses running every 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday from 6.30am until 9pm to easily get into town and enjoy the 10th edition of New Zealand Rural Games.”
New Zealand Rural Games Marketing Manager Daniel O’Regan says the free bus service is a great way to ensure everyone can participate in the Games.
“The New Zealand Rural Games Trust is very proud that the Ford Ranger Rural Games Weekend is free for everyone to attend. We can do this through partnership with organisations like Horizons Regional Council, who have generously offered to help celebrate our 10th edition of the Games by offering residents free travel in a fun, accessible, and sustainable way,” says Daniel.
Horizons will also have a stall at the Rural Games, where visitors can learn more about public transport, regional environmental initiatives, and biodiversity efforts. Those who stop by the Horizons tent can also pick up a native seed envelope to take home.
