Life After Racing
Meet some of the passionate team from Harness Racing New Zealand, dedicated to the cause of Life After Racing. This charitable initiative is committed to providing retired Standardbred Race Horses with loving homes.
You can meet us at the Games on Saturday, between 2pm and 4pm at the hitching posts near the Plaza Corner of The Square. We’ll be accompanied by two remarkable equine companions:
- Call Security: A horse set to grace the tracks at Manawatu Race Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, 12-13 March.
- Chevy (paddock name) Midnight Hour (racing name): This horse serves as the Clerk of the Course’s trusted companion at Manawatu and recently had the honor of leading the winner at the Wellington Gallops.
Our belief is clear
“Every Standardbred horse should be treated with respect, compassion, and understanding, receiving a standard of care that ensures a high quality of life both within the racing industry and after retirement.”
Standardbreds across New Zealand continue to excel in various equestrian disciplines post-racing, including showing, trekking, show jumping, endurance, competitive trail riding, cowboy challenge, and eventing. Join us to learn more about how these incredible horses embark on fulfilling journeys after their racing careers.
